High School Bass Class

What else has been going on? Not enough fishing, that is for sure. But I’ve got some other priorities like turkey hunting going on. Expect something on that soon but so far I’ve been out twice unsuccessfully. I also had a week where I made a couple trips south to talk with some high school/middle school teams. I always enjoy that stuff and am honored any time a team asks me to come out. Last year I did my talks on electronics but this year I got to change it up a bit.

Zeeland has a huge team and I think I’ve talked there 3 times in recent years. They’ve heard the electronics stuff before so this year we talked about a lot of the differences between fishing/tournament fishing and how to prepare for and fish tournaments. Something that isn’t so easily looked up on youtube like fishing a crankbait could be for instance. I think this is also my greatest strength as a tournament angler. I don’t have fancy tricks nor do I have enough time to make some up but I can use my time efficiently and use whatever the day gives me to my advantage. I’m hoping that the learning curve was shortened a little bit from that talk.

Holland Christian is a new team that I got a chance to talk to. While it was more standard info about drop shotting and familiarizing them with Hardy Dam which one of their SPI tournaments is on. I think they got some good stuff out of it. Thanks to both teams for having me and good luck this season.

Another cool thing about this year is that I had some gear to give away. I had some stuff from Blackfish and then some more Blackfish and various spools of P-Line from the Michigan Sales rep. It was a very generous donation to get the kids some gear and was much appreciated.

I even got my hands on some free swag this week. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the giveaways that Wired2Fish does. They have some pretty good stuff so I’ve just made a habit of throwing my name in there and I’ve been doing it for years. I was shocked to learn I won the Gamakatsu Nano Alpha hook giveaway. Then Nano Alpha coating is a new technology that blah blah. The best part is that they were hooks that I can really use. Worm hooks and EWG superlines, what’s not to like about that. Thanks Wired2fish and Gamakatsu!
