Transducer Selection - Lesson Learned

It is always something on the first boat trip of the year. There were lots of updates to Humminbird units and the MEGA Live Transducer over the off season. With 3 units and a MEGA Live unit on the boat I was anxious to make sure it was all working well and that I was getting the best performance by having everything up to date.

MEGA Live was improved right away, no interference and once again the update made it a little bit better. However I noticed my MEGA 360 was working slow. I started checking all the settings, restarting the unit/transducer, and nothing would make it better. I’d fish for awhile and then play with it again. I’m pretty well versed in this stuff and I was confused.

Last year when I was waiting for my Ultrex Quest 360 plate I had connected that unit to the MEGA SI transducer in my trolling motor. That unit usually doesn’t connect to anything other than the 360 so it never crossed my mind that I had changed the transducer setting. One simple switch to the MEGA 360 transducer and my performance was back to normal.

It’s just one thing to confirm if you seem to be getting sub optimal performance out of a unit. In my case the transducer was still “working” just not very well and the unit was also trying to pull DI and 2D sonar from it. I’m glad one simple switch and everything is back to normal!
