Blackfish Gear - Storm Skin

Fall fishing is here! Although duck hunting is going to take up much of my time I’m sure I’ll end up on a cold Lake Michigan pier a few times. There have been some major advancements in cold weather gear fishing or really outdoor activity gear in the last few years. Previously we had 2 options Clam Ice Armor, which is going to keep you plenty warm but just has a little too much bulk for casting all day long. The second option would be a waterproof shell with no insulation like the Blackfish Aspire suit or any of the Goretex suits on the market. While comfortable it was all about layering underneath these to stay warm.

I’ve mentioned the big benefits of the Blackfish softshell gear on here before but now they’ve upped their game. Previously they featured a windproof and weather resistant outer barrier with insulation. Now they’ve added StormSkin to a bunch of the softshell gear. StormSkin is windproof and waterproof and there is nothing better than being dry and warm when encountering some nasty fall weather. All the warmth without the bulk or a million layers is a big change from how I remember dressing in the past.

StormSkin is available in bibs, pants, and jackets. They do also have a new vest to the lineup which features the first generation of softshell barrier. It’s weather resistant/windproof and is one of my favorite fall/spring pieces whether I’m on the water or not.
