Motor Update - Sensor Swap

I mentioned in my salmon blog that I had some motor issues. Fuel was pouring out of the water in fuel sensor in my Mercury. Luckily it occurred at a good time for something like that to happen and my Ultrex Quest had no problems getting us back to the dock. It was quite a ways to the dock and it was nice to be able to monitor my battery usage and estimated run time on my Humminbird units.

We could tell it was that specific part when the problem occurred so I got one coming on the water. My first call was to D&R but they did not have one in stock so I turned to the internet. There are lots of knock of versions of this part for cheap but I got the much more expensive OEM version. I may get a cheap knock off too just in case I ever have a problem and need to get back. It was an easy replacement although, I did cut the wires to get a 5/8 inch (I think) socket on to avoid breaking the plastic or rounding it off. That is something to keep in mind If an on the water change has to occur.

What I found with the original sensor was that the stuff holding the wires in place disintegrated. I’m going to assume from ethanol even though I always run marine Sta-bil in my tank. The biggest concern was that nothing else had been damaged that would be more costly than the 57 dollar part. With one trip under its belt it seems like we are good to go but only time will tell.
