The Diver Dock

If you’ve been in the trolling game much you are probably familiar with a “dipsy diver”. Basically a piece of plastic and lead that dives like the bill of a crankbait (but with no wobble). Behind that you run a leader and finally your bait. Leaders keep getting longer as clear water requires a stealth approach at times. Long leaders are just the overall trend in Lake Michigan fishing right now. Whether they make a big difference or not, they are trendy.

With leaders getting longer, the issues of managing them get even bigger. It is a problem that just about anyone fishing the big lake for salmon has. Sure there are systems and ways to wrap your line. Those often lead to kinks and overall headaches. Enter the “diver dock” a solution to this problem by my buddy Eric Traver and made right here in Grand Haven. Basically the Diver Dock fits around the diver and allows you to easily wrap up your leaders without kinks. Making it easy to store them after a day of fishing and easy to deploy them at the start of a fishing trip. It’s also handy if you might be switching out different divers throughout the day. For instance we might have divers with different pound test leaders if we are running a spoon or a rotator/fly. It makes switching easy and the convenient color coding red for port and green for starboard keeps confusion out of the mix.

If you are local to West Michigan there are a couple shops that have them. ClearH2O Tackle in Edwardsburg and The Outdoorsmen at any of their various stores. You can also find them online or check out more information at the Diver Dock website. I have a feeling this won’t be the last product you see from them either, so stay tuned!
