Summer is Flying By

There’s been a ton going on since the last serious round of blogs. I’ve still got a couple to do on a disastrous White Lake HOTD event. But we’ve been busy in the meantime. So busy that I’m sure I’m leaving something important out.

One weekend was a nice vacation break to Portage Lake. We haven’t really gone on a vacation with everyone on my side of the family in quite some time. So it was really fun to get a chance to do that. We stayed right on Portage Lake in Onekama (well across the street) and had a dock. The plan wasn’t to do much and just relax. Of course we got some fishing in and things were much more challenging than I expected. When I’d find a good area I could only catch 1 or 2 instead of a whole school. I’ll admit I didn’t try too hard but I tried hard enough that I should have done better than I did. Much different than the last time I fished up there. The girls got to pull on a few which was good and we started the trip with a drum adventure in Grand Haven before we left.

I’ve been making some modifications to the boat and trailer also. I’m due to swap out all my bearings and I’m slowly working on that. I’ve got one done and 3 to go. I’ve ordered the stuff to do them all before we head north for another vacation. It isn’t too big of a project just messy more than anything. I also found a cracked vortex screw on hub cover and that was my cue to finally replace all of them with the aluminum ones. I tried to order them locally but D&R only has them for a different style hub. Big shout out to Dave up there for catching that I had different hubs when I was trying to order them.

The other project I just wrapped up was adding a lithium battery to my boat for electronics power. I really need to get better with my MEGA Live and I’m hoping a dedicated battery will help with that. Speaking of Humminbird, I’ve taken phone calls, hopped in peoples boats, set up units, and updated units for peoples so far this season. So please if you have any issues or questions don’t hesitate to reach out. I know electronics can be overwhelming at times and I will do my best to get it figured out.

I think I’ve only salmon fished once since the Grand Haven tournament. That is crushing my learning curve but since July is pretty much empty of tournaments, I hope to make up some ground then. We did score a nice mixed bag on the last trip with kings, steel, and a really nice coho. Figured out some new things with a wire diver and a Yakima Spinfish. Acquiring the wire diver is really going to help us out!

White Lake blogs are coming next and then whatever transpires this weekend for D&R on the Grand River.
