Making the Switch
I’ve been fishing with the same brands of rods/reels almost 10 years now. I’ve had access to great equipment, worked shows, and had a lot of fun promoting Dobyn’s Rods and Lew’s over the years. It’s been a fun ride and a great experience but this year we are making a switch.
So what’s next? I’m sure many of you have heard of Favorite Fishing. Maybe you haven’t really given them a serious look because all you’ve heard is something about them being a “YouTube” brand. I’ll be honest, I was in the same boat for a while. I hadn’t really investigated the brand at all until I heard we were making the switch. I’m still getting used to all of the different models of both rods and reels. There’s no doubt it is a lot to take in at once since there are a ton of options!
I’ve only gotten my hands on a few of the reels so far but we’ll be handling some rods soon. My initial response was what is going on with this packaging? It is awesome! The Jackhammer (10+1 bearings) and Phantom (8+1 bearings) spinning reels come with a protective case and the reels look great too. While I haven’t had them out on the water yet I’ll say the Jackhammer Spinning reel is the nicest spinning reel I’ve ever owned. I’m expecting big things out of the spinning stuff and some super long casts out of the Soleus and Soleus XCS baitcasters.
One thing that’s unique about the baitcasters is that they have super free ceramic bearings. Ceramic bearings aren’t lubricated so they will make some noise while casting. That might take a minute to get used to but I’ve heard great things about casting distance.
I’ll report my findings when I start fishing them and get some more products in. This is all very reminiscent about when we first started working with Lew’s. Relatively new company that has some momentum and wants to make moves. I’m looking forward to where product development goes with the tour level pros they’ve been signing and the new sales reps. I’m excited to see where it goes and spend some time on the water with the new gear.
