Worth The Wait

After what seemed like forever, I finally got to take a trip in my own rig. Of course it would be windy and cold but I didn’t really care. My main mission was to spend time with MEGA Live after the latest update. I wanted to lean on a few too. My trip would be a little more difficult because I didn’t index my trolling motor. If you ever mess with the steering motor be sure to do that before you hit the water or steering will be challenging.

One clear take away from this trip is that with every update MEGA Live is improving. Bait tracking is improving (lower your contrast for that) and I was really able to spot fish with it. I still need a ton of time to really get proficient with it. I had high hopes this spring was going to be my opportunity to get really good but I'll have to keep learning as I go this summer.

The fishing was good for sure, not as easy as I thought it would be but Muskegon Lake is a fun place in the spring. I caught a variety of green and brown ones but the smallmouth stole the show. I hit one place that I always run into good ones but there just aren't very many. First cast yielded one around 4 but that's when things really got interesting. The jerkbait loaded up again and it was another big one. I thought to myself wow that's a really big one for sure over 5. But as it got closer it was apparent I had something bigger. Could it be the mythical 6 pound smallmouth that has eluded me?

Things got intense by the boat but when I hoisted the net in the boat I knew I had a 6. I got a quick pic and a weight of 6.41! The wait was certainly worth it especially since it was a west Michigan seabeast. Only here to drop her eggs and head back out to the big lake. I snatched a big pike and another 4 plus smallmouth off that spot and called it a day.

I was lucky I had my net out from another surprise encounter. Once again on the jerkbait with a beautiful lake run brown. If you've never caught a cold water brown on bass tackle you are missing out. I felt merciful and turned this one loose, which I sort of regret.

Going to switch it up and try trolling up some kings this weekend. But from here on out I won't be doing much but looking at them until tournament season starts.
